I used to joke that the only thing I ever did every day without fail was put on my glasses. It’s one of those jokes rooted in truth because I am, so far in this life, a person who struggles with maintaining a daily routine of any kind. That’s why I have too many to-dos and calendar entries for things normal people probably do consistently without thinking about it. Make bed. Read 30 minutes. Write.
At some point, the pressure of routine wears on me and each day is a nagging jab about something left undone. The shame in the not-doing! 10,000 steps. Practice guitar. Write.
It occurred to me that if writing consistently is a struggle for you, maybe you don’t want me in your inbox every day with some advice on how to do a thing you feel guilty for not doing.
So, I’m going to switch to a weekly format for this newsletter. Maybe, if you’re really into the daily thing, I can set up a separate thing but let’s take that one step at a time, yeah?
